    • Saving Lorado Taft’s “Eternal Indian”

Lorado Taft’s 1911 statue the “Eternal Indian,” sometimes known simply as the “Black Hawk” statue, stands as a silent sentinel overlooking the Rock River at Lowden State Park near Oregon, IL.  Unfortunately, a century of time has worn on the statue, deteriorating its condition to a point that its future is in jeopardy, placing it second on Landmarks Illinois’ 2015 most endangered list.  For the past several years the Illinois Conservation Foundation has been part of an on-going fundraising effort to pay for full restoration of this National Historic Landmark.  You can help preserve this important landmark to our Native American heritage by donating today.
